Tracking on a warm day…
May 15, 2009 on 3:35 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI decided to go tracking today during my lunch break… it had rained heavily last night and I figured the conditions would still be good. I laid a track with three legs. Each leg approx 100-150 feet and an article on each leg. Food was sporatic. Ground cover was lawn-like grass in Villa Julie’s front field. Grass was dry due to the mid-seventies temps, slight breeze and warm sun. The underlying ground was a mix of dry and some damp areas… I figured the conditions were good.
Charlie’s nose was deep in some areas and very high in others. He was distracted at times and had to be reminded to pay attention to what he was doing. A gentle reminder worked, but I felt he should not need to be reminded. Also, the last leg left him with a high nose, panting with warm weather. He found all the corners, he found all the articles. Without help, I don’t know if he would have been dedicated to finishing the track. I was a tad disappointed with his attitude, even though he did it, found the way and finished the track. Had this been the “real deal”, I don’t know if we would have qualified… sigh.
