CDX…. NQ
September 4, 2008 on 9:25 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentCharlie and I drove up past Harrisburg, PA two weeks ago for an attempt at Charlie’s first CDX leg… he did well… we gained some experience and I decided until we are much further along in our Schutzhund training, we will put the CDX title on hold. He can do it and do it well, but I get nervous; the AKC ring is small and confining and I trip on my own two feet; he must do a down on recall which I worry might slow his Schutzhund recall down a tad and I’m not interested in that! In fact, because I was worried about that, I never trained the down on recall…. he did it just fine! Very different than the go-out in Schutzhund where you send your dog and down them while they are running from you, not to you. AKC, you call your dog and it comes running at you and then you down it half way to you on the judges command…. all this can wait…
Charlie didn’t qualify because he returned around the high jump with the dumbbell, rather than over it… unlike Schutzhund, you have to do everything with at least 50% of the points or the entire routine is a non-qualifier… and we received no points for the high jump…. so an eye opener… Charlie loves to jump, but that does not translate into doing it in the ring always. We need to train for that!
